Redeemer Secondary School is located in the town of Ankpa, a larger rural community of 125,000 people in Kogi State. The school educates 280 students from various backgrounds and faith traditions. A school building existed but the facilities were so rudimentary that there was no electricity or running water. In late 2018, Fr. James was asked by the principal if EPN could raise money to pay for the construction of a bore hole (underground water well), generator, and overhead water tank.
EPN raised $18,000 and the project was completed in 2019. The students and teachers now have access to water and power for up to 6 hours a day.
“These gifts to the school have brought profound change to our lives and studies. We can now read more effectively, drink good clean water, bathe and be punctual to class. It has really eliminated so much stress and anxiety about our health as well.” (Theresa Ahiaba, School Head Girl, SSS 3).
