Kogi State (Wikipedia) is one of the 36 states comprising the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with 200 million inhabitants and the third-largest youth population in the world—90 million of its people are younger than eighteen. Nigeria has extremely high unemployment and poverty rates, despite an abundance of oil wealth.
Kogi is located along the Niger River, and its economy is largely rural. It is home to numerous ethnic groups and three main languages. The main export commodity in the state is palm oil, though Kogi farmers are seeking to introduce other crops to prevent soil exhaustion.
